project info

The discussions after watching movies will provide the audience with a platform to discuss post-lockdown life. The informal cinema atmosphere brings a positive environment for mental and emotional wellbeing. As a women-only community centre in Bradford East, their service-users and cinema audience are mainly of South Asian heritage. Since reopening their face-to-face services after lockdown, they have increased social and recreational activities, and the addition of a community and social cinema has brought women together in a friendly and relaxed space.

The pandemic saw a large number of people losing family members and friends. This cinema allows for discussions around bereavement, isolation and loneliness which has affected many women's mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. This project aims to divert their attention from grief and support women in re-learning how to enjoy the present moment.
