project info
Muslim Women's Council have on average of 100 Muslim women attending events throughout the year, and have found that many local Muslim women across Bradford are battling inaccurate stereotypes: seen as one-dimensional figures lacking dynamism or the ability to act. This has contributed to limiting their experience of and access to cultural and art opportunities and demand from them to change this. The project, Daughters of Eve, is a response to this, and aims to challenge these representations. It worked to co-create with Muslim women from BD3 and surrounding wards to engage with art. The organisation wanted them to own and define art based on what it means to them personally, and give them opportunities to engage with art and culture by both experiencing and creating art that connects to them and represents them as a community and as part of a wider city. The project partnered with local Muslim women artists, to produce works of creative art that represent the voices of those in the District.
