project info
South Asian influences can be found everywhere in Britain, from our food and clothes to our music and even in our words and languages, and the streets of Bradford are rich with the colours, sights and sounds of proud South Asian identities. From Manningham to Leeds Road, and from Girlington to Keighley, South Asian cultures permeate all parts of life and add to the diversity of Bradford. The Leap has supported Bradford South Asian Heritage Festival since it began in 2020. The festival is an independent festival platforming the narratives of South Asian diaspora, from a local perspective. The festival aims to illustrate the unique and rich contribution of South Asian culture and people in shaping Bradford as a city, a district and a community. In running between July and August, the festival seeks to commemorate, mark and celebrate South Asian cultures, heritage, and particularly the intertwined histories of the UK and South Asian diaspora communities.
