project info

With grateful thanks to Kevin Dutton for inspiring the idea for this project, West Riding is collection of young women from Bradford and Keighley who formed a vibrant music band in 2021. Louisa, Abi, Barbora quickly formed a creative bond after we sent out a callout to attract young talent from across the district. Comprising in a drummer, bass player and lead singer, their music is a fuse of indie-rock which aims to raise the profile of young people’s voices and attempt to change the district’s narrative through personal stories. Since their formation, The Leap has partnered the group up with a band manager and producer Jennifer Pugh, who runs The Woolpack Music & Arts Studios in Otley. Jen has been fantastic in supporting West Riding with their creative direction and has shared her studio space with the band, to allow them to record and create music. West Riding performed their first live gig in 2021 to a pool of creative practitioners, which allowed them to build confidence and create connections with people from across Bradford and Keighley. It’s been brilliant to be a part of the young women’s journey and we’re looking forward to what the future has to hold for them.
