project info
This project used cultural heritage in an accessible and innovative way combining Arabic calligraphy, neon lighting and inventive design to create three new 3x3m light installations that encompassed the qualities and attributes of three selected names of the God, Allah. This was a collaboration is between The Leap, Muslim Women’s Council, calligraphy artist Razwan Ul-Haq and 10 Muslim women in Bradford. The names and designs were chosen and co-created by women from the Muslim Women’s Council. The large-scale neon installations went live during Eid in May 2021 and were installed at two mosques.
This piece of work acted as a launch pad to develop further ideas of how to use installation art and immersive technology to celebrate the 99 Names of Allah. The project was joint funded by Bradford District Council and The Leap as part of LiT - Bradford District's light festival. The Leap supported the project with creative production - connecting Muslim Women's Council with artists involved and supporting the installation at the mosques.
