project info
After losing friends to suicide, Ali and Hasnain wanted to create a space for young men to talk, learn and find positive paths to take in their lives. Youth Cutz aims to spread awareness amongst the youth and more importantly to stop the youth into criminal activities. Ali and Hasnain will use their barbershop as a tool to support mental health issues by socialising with their community. The barber shop will be a place full of socialising which is highlighted by their slogan: “what happens in the barbershop, stays in the barbershop.” As a self-taught barber, Ali has heard dozens of stories from clients which inspired him to create Youth Cutz as a space specifically for regular socialising and maintaining confidentiality, as well as a place to help each other.
Youth Cutz prioritises trust and creating a comfortable environment in which young men can communicate and share their thoughts in an informal setting to support with peers with mental health. This is why they come to the barbershop! To talk! To feel appreciated! To be listened to!
