Increasing participation of young women in different arts forms.

project info

Build a Girl is a group based at the TFD centre in Holmewood run by Fiona Broadfoot. This group welcomes girls aged between 11 and 18 to attend weekly and take part in new activities. The group focuses on important issues such as consent, confidence building and friendship. Fiona, herself as a long history with fighting for women’s rights around consent and the laws around prostitution and sexual abuse which often lead to injustice for women. Fiona is a strong and constant role model for these girls that often come from disadvantaged backgrounds and so the group acts as a routinely method of support for the girls that attend. The ten weeks of workshops supported girls through a process of exploring their own talents, encouraging them to try new things and think about what they might like to do in the future in regard to arts and cultural activity. This consultation information and work will inform The Leap's future programme and we will feedback what communities have told us to arts and cultural stakeholders in the District.
